About Us

Let us be clear: the purpose of Red Army Barracks is not to glorify or romanticize the Soviet Union or any cold war conflict. Rather, we believe the Soviet Union should be contemplated and seen as a reflection of humanity. It is the story of a nation that tried to fabricate its own identity and sense of meaning and rose to great and unexpected heights only to fall to desperate depths all within a tremendously short period of time.

As a story, it is compelling, and its power goes far beyond economic lessons. If you look closely, you can see Icarus, Rodion Raskolnikov, T.E. Lawrence, and even traces of the Biblical Exodus. It is a story of the human soul, and so the lessons therein are as applicable to the US as to Russia and to the Right as to the Left.

Now that the dust has settled, our designs (and social media content) serve as mementos, small contemplations, and warnings against apocalyptic arrogance.
